Recently in Philadelphia, a 14 year-old and her boyfriend have had the girls parents murdered because they didn't approve of the relationship. Yesterday a child shot someone on a schoolbus in Florida. Last week, someone was stabbed at a school in England, Kids went stampeeding in Nigeria because they thought their school was on fire. A few months back someone had stitchers because they were stabbed in a school in Sheffield (England), there're obviously other incidents. Have we got a load of murderers in our schools? Is this the future direction of society?

Kids are committing murder in many different places in the world, is this a sign that the future for our children is a grim one?

I think about this each time I read the newspaper and hear story after story of school kids being shot and killed, kids killing kids, kids killing their parents; it depresses me! It would seem that there isn't any hope for the kids anymore, that such terrible current events such as war, terrorism, trends, etc, have dulled the basic values of our societies; life, respect for elders, respect for authority, there doesn't seem to be anything restraining some of our teenagers today. I lose hope when I hear about American-born gangs recruiting youngsters in other countries only to have their street wars terrorize foreign neighborhoods and more innocent people, or when I hear about a group of young men who were headed to a neo-Nazi rally and killed two African-Americans on their way. Yes, it does make me lose hope. When I was going to school, every monday after the weekend had passed, another story about someone being shot and killed would be the hot topic, such graffic details; "he was convulsing on his side with a bullet hole at the left side of his head," "she was abducted by four guys and raped repeatedly for two days before they killed her," "he was on drugs and killed his little brother, sister, and mom." Yes, it does make me lose hope even now. I sometimes think that the reason why we hear so much about stories like these is because technology and the media; in the past people weren't as disturbed or informed as we are today by news coverage. But who knows if it was the same in the past when there wasn't national or international breaking news? It happens all over the world, and it appears that something is driving the kids mad, crazy enough or hardened enough to kill without remorse. Just a few weeks ago here in California, they sentenced five Latino gang members to life in prison for running African-Americans out of their neighborhood by killing five of them within a six year period, and they charged them with some old slavery law to try to impose the death penalty. But I didn't follow the case as much as I wish I had, so I can't explain in detail. And I just read a story today about how much racially-motivated crime has risen since 2005. Three white teenagers were attacked by a group of African-Americans this year on Halloween night; their trial is on right now. Yes, I lose hope with stories such as these. And if this show of behavior isn't primitive enough for you, then just think about the politics practiced behind prison walls; in there you get your throat slit simply for punting someone's shoe or for looking at someone the wrong way. You'd think that primitive behavior would be restrained in a place such as a prison, and that such things wouldn't occur out here in our "civilized" world, but it's pretty clear that nothing can fully govern the will of man. Oh man, they say too that prison mobs call the shots on what goes on in the streets! We can choose to be law-abiding citizens, or we can choose to be monsters. Or think about our history; war after war, oppression after oppression, I have no idea how dim our future will be, I have no idea how much colder this planet will become, but one thing is true: history always repeats itself. With 911, with every other war that has been the cause of death and suffering, our little human family still hasn't learned to live in peace. It's hard for a young man such as myself to have hope with so much rottenness going on in the world, it's beginning to stink. Perhaps this problem appearing amidst the kids is a sign that it won't get any better. Who knows? Who knows? Is there hope even amid such chaos?:(

Yes, I think the Media plays a roll by numbing the affects of violence. Almost every advertisement for a sitcom now states parental advisery suggested. However, this being said, you have to wonder what happened to good parenting and having a loving and caring household. I think society has a great deal of influence on kids, but only if parents allow it. If I were a parent, I honestly wouldn't let him/her watch most tv shows. Maybe if more parents encouraged kids to read and tried to put some diciplin in the kids life, we wouldn't have these kind of problems. But no, the parent is probably off working, trying to earn as much money as they can, neglecting their real job, which is to be a parent. People forget how much of a full time job parenting is. Its easier to let the kid watch tv rather then to take him/her outside and throw around a frisby or take them to the zoo. These kids who shot their parents obviously felt no love what so ever for the parents. I don't know, but I'm willing to bet that their was some neglect at some point earlier in the kids life. Raising kids is a responsibility and a job. Its about fricken time people realize this. Also, keep in mind that we only hear about the bad cases. Their are plenty of parents doing a decent job of raising their kids. These are the ones we don't hear about. Still, I wish their was some military type course that every parent was forced to take before their kid was born that would stress the importance of the job they had just accepted.

Just imagining kids murdering their own parents is very depressing. It's true that we all get mad at our parents especially when we are teenagers, but I personally don't think I could live with myself if I ever killed my parents.

That's absolutely horrible! People are crazy, I tell ya! Like those 2 boys (now men) oin England who killed that little boy by torture, makes me sick, and all the school shootings and things, too...and violence in schools, too over here. There were a group of about5 boys who used to go around and torment people; they lit a firework on a sleeping homeless man, and tormented this poor intelectually impaired girl, took her down by the river got her to perform some sort of sexual act, and then set her hair on fire with an aerosole can, this world is sick! Makes me incredibly sad and somewhat afraid to think about the future with these wars like Iraq, and such violence being displayed.
